Getting the PDF from Citi

Go to Statements & Documents, pick the account and statement date, then Download as PDF. Citi statements downloaded this way are text PDFs and parse directly. A scan or photo also works, read on your device with OCR.

What you get

Each transaction becomes one row with the posting date, the description exactly as Citi printed it, the amount with the right sign, and the running balance. The opening and closing balances are checked against the total so an incomplete extraction is caught before import.

Questions

Can I use a Citi scan or photo, or does it have to be the downloaded PDF?
Both work. A Citi statement downloaded from online banking is read from its text and is the most reliable. A scan or a phone photo is read on your device with OCR and checked so the totals reconcile.
Is my Citi statement uploaded?
No. The file is opened by code running in your browser and never transmitted. The byte counter on the page shows zero throughout.
What does the Excel file contain?
Date, description, signed amount (deposits positive, withdrawals negative) and the running balance when the statement prints one.
How many statements are free?
Three a month, with every export format. Pro removes the limit.
